Description
The GEONETCast Centre at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani, is organizing a training workshop designed to introduce participants to the basic concepts and operational skills necessary to acquire and use products obtained through the GEONETCast system and to apply them for Climate, Water and Environmental applications. The emphasis will be on applications for Water and Food Security and Environmental Monitoring.
Outline
• Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS)
• Practical – GIS and RS with Open Software
• Introduction to GEONETCAST data system
• Case Studies (Water, Health, Energy, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Ecosystems, Disasters, Weather and Climate)
• Submission of Case Studies & Evaluation
• Presentation of selected 10 Case Studies
Target Group
The workshop is developed for professionals which include the staff of the Ministries of Water, Energy, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development and Researchers in Water Resources, Agriculture, Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Meteorology, Geo-information and Remote Sensing Scientists who want to use near real-time geospatial data for monitoring and planning purposes.
What is to be achieved?
You will learn how to set-up a GEONETCast system, and develop technical skills in data retrieving methods, product content and data analyses related to water and the environment. Participants can select a number of case studies to review the methodology and applicability of the Earth Observation data.

Requirements
Academic level and background; Applicants should have a Diploma or equivalent from a recognized University in a discipline related to the course, preferably combined with working experience in a relevant field. Computer skills; Applicants must have elementary computer experience.

Course fee: The registration fee is GHC350.00 which covers a certificate of participation, a USB drive containing all lectures and data, snacks and lunch, and a workshop folder containing other supporting writing materials.
