Building Ghana’s Next Generation of Satellite Communication Experts
About the EORIC-UENR SATCOM Training Hub
The SATCOM Training Hub is a flagship initiative of the Earth Observation Research and Innovation Centre (EORIC) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Ghana. Established with funding from the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) through the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), the hub is dedicated to capacity building, research, and innovation in satellite communication (SATCOM) and space technologies.
The training hub addresses the critical need for skilled professionals in Ghana’s emerging space and telecoms ecosystem—empowering engineers, technicians, students, researchers, and entrepreneurs with hands-on experience and internationally aligned certifications.
Objectives of the SATCOM Hub
1. Capacity Building: Deliver practical, competency-based training in SATCOM systems, signal processing, and ground station operations.
2. Research & Innovation: Conduct advanced research on SATCOM applications in broadband connectivity, remote sensing, and disaster management.
3. Industry Collaboration: Partner with national, private sector, and international stakeholders to support applied SATCOM solutions.
4. Technology Development: Promote the use of satellite communication in sectors like agriculture, health, education, environmental monitoring, and telemedicine.
5. Digital Inclusion: Using satellite broadband technologies to bridge the digital divide in rural and underserved areas.
6. Policy & Advocacy: Support the formulation of national space and SATCOM policies, regulations, and public education.
