REPORT ON FLOOD AND DROUGHT MODELLING WITH EARTH OBSERVATION DATA - EORIC

Space Science Technology has made a significant contribution towards the preparedness, prevention and relief stages of flood and disaster management. Earth Observation satellites provide comprehensive and multi-temporal coverage of large areas. This provides valuable information for the continuous atmospheric monitoring of the surfaces fluxes related to floods and droughts. Remote Sensing (RS) Technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide real-time monitoring, early warning and damage assessment for drought and flood disasters. As part of its aim in capacity building of professionals in the country, the Earth Observation Research and Innovation Centre (EORIC) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) organised training on flood and drought modelling using earth observation for professionals. The training was held at Adenta-Accra from the 22nd to 24th August 2016. This document presents a report on the training program. Participants were from UENR, KNUST and the National Disaster and Management Organisation (NADMO). The resource persons were Caleb Mensah, Eric Mortey and Martin Domefeh.
